This email clarifies ATTA's sanctioning tournament rules and regulations, as well as the status of the Table Tennis United Society (TTUS) hosting its provincial team tryout. Please inform your members accordingly. We have copied this email to the TTCAN board for their information.
Dear Alberta Clubs and Players,
We would like to inform you that a club in Calgary has announced its intention to host a two-star tournament on March 1, 2025, claiming that TTCAN has sanctioned it. However, ATTA has not been notified of this event, which violates our sanctioning rules that require clubs to inform ATTA prior to hosting any tournament. Once we receive the proper notification, ATTA will advise clubs if there are any scheduling conflicts with other events.
TTCAN recognizes ATTA as a provisional member, and the current ATTA board is acknowledged as the governing body, as stated in TTCAN's communication. This recognition allows Alberta to host rated tournaments. According to ATTA's rules and regulations, a club must be a member of ATTA to host such an event. While we will temporarily waive the membership requirement until we are reinstated as a full member of TTCAN, all clubs must adhere to our sanctioning procedures. This means that non-member clubs may host tournaments, provided they comply with ATTA's rules and regulations.
Here are ATTA's sanctioning rules and regulations:
1. A club must request the proposed time and date of the tournament, including the number of rating stars.
2. ATTA will determine if the proposed date conflicts with the existing schedule and ensure that the proposed rating stars meet all TTCAN requirements.
3. Once approved, ATTA will post the event on its website and social media.
4. The tournament committee must submit the tournament results and collected rating fees to ATTA.
5. ATTA will then submit all tournament results to TTCAN.
TTCAN recognizes this practice for all provinces in Canada to facilitate better communication with each Provincial Sports Organization (PSO) and to prevent scheduling conflicts among clubs. PSOs are responsible for ensuring compliance with TTCAN's rules and regulations.
We emphasize that ATTA will not recognize any club that hosts a tournament without notifying ATTA and complying with its rules and regulations. Therefore, if ATTA is not notified, the tournament will be considered unrated.
Additionally, a newly established club, Table Tennis United Society (TTUS), is hosting a TTUS Provincial Team tryout on March 1, 2025. We would like to clarify that while TTUS is one of the clubs in Alberta, referring to their tryout as a "TTUS Provincial Team Tryout" does not make it an official Alberta Provincial Team tryout. The Alberta Provincial Team tryout is designed to select the best players from each age category to represent Alberta at the National Championship in July 2025. ATTA coordinates the Alberta Provincial Team tryout, and information regarding the tryout and its results has been posted on our website.
